Spot Counterfeits and Earn Appraisal Fees

Use the Magnifying Glass and the matching item handbook to check authenticity before agreeing to a purchase. To earn appraisal fees without buying stock, join the Appraiser Board, inspect a customer's item, and submit its calculated value.

The examples below cover demo and earlier playtest appraisal rules. Probably Stolen's full release is scheduled for October 28, 2026.

02

Unlock Appraisal Customers

Membership supplies a Magnifying Glass and the Cybernetic Hand Appraisal Guide. The Plasma Cartridge Appraisal Guide arrives on day 12, followed later by the Ribwich guide. If you postpone joining, paying later still grants the guides whose delivery days have passed.

03

Match the Handbook to the Item

For Hemingway cigarettes, use the Hemingway Identification Guide to compare printed markings, seals, and the other handbook details. Food Stamps have the Food Stamp Identification Handbook, while Immunivax has the Immunivax Assessment Guide. Plasma Cartridges, Ribwiches, and Cybernetic Hands use their respective appraisal materials to turn visible features into a valuation.

04

Complete an Appraisal Without Buying the Item

  1. Examine the customer's item with the Magnifying Glass in the inspection tray so you can read its markings and compare its visible features.
  2. Submit your estimate through the appraisal service to earn a fee without purchasing the customer's item.

The reviewed demo rules accept estimates between 50% and 150% of the correct value. An accepted appraisal pays 20 credits plus an accuracy bonus of 5%–15% of your submitted estimate. Aim for the calculated value instead of treating the acceptance range as a reason to guess.

Calculate a Plasma Cartridge's Value

The Plasma Cartridge Appraisal Guide starts its calculation at 100 credits. Its minimum value is 30 credits. The catalog's 150-credit original price is a separate figure and should not replace that starting value.

  1. Check every applicable condition modifier. Light Wear subtracts 15 credits, Heavy Wear subtracts 30, Cracked subtracts 50, Exposed Screws subtracts 10, and Reinforced adds 20.
  2. Match the plasma colour to the handbook. Standard adds nothing, Low-Grade subtracts 50 credits, and High-Grade adds 50.
  3. Apply the manufacturer bonus only when its complete requirements match. Ignition Lab needs its seal, High-Grade plasma, and no cartridge condition at all to add 80 credits.
  4. Apply the 30-credit floor after finishing the calculation. The Ignition Lab example with High-Grade plasma and no condition modifiers totals 230 credits.

Avoid Costly Accusations and False Labels

During an ordinary purchase, select a genuine discrepancy in the inspection interface and choose Confront to challenge the seller's price. A false accusation can cost reputation or make the customer leave. If you cannot point to a specific mismatch, pass on the deal instead of gambling your standing.

Relabelling a counterfeit as genuine can expose your shop to Security consequences. The demo patch removes reputation loss when mislabeled items are offered to an aug. Keep that exception separate from how you handle ordinary customers.

Use the aug identification guide when you need to judge the customer rather than the authenticity of the goods.
