How to Save for the Shop in Probably Stolen

Learn how to save for shop ownership in Probably Stolen, where to check rent and property value, and why the demo cannot complete the shop purchase.

01

Save for Ownership While Keeping Rent Covered

You cannot buy the shop in the current Probably Stolen demo, but you can work toward it by protecting rent money and building a cash reserve. Check the property value on the calendar for your savings target; purchasing and owning the store is promised for the October 28 full release.

02

Set Your Savings Target on the Calendar

  1. Open the in-game calendar to read the displayed property value and monitor your rent obligation. Use the value shown in your own save as the target for your savings. This is also the screen the mentor directs you to when explaining the property's value.
  2. Set aside the rent before deciding how much to spend on restocking. Treat those credits as unavailable for speculative purchases, even when a supplier offers an attractive deal. Keeping rent separate from trading capital makes it easier to see what you can actually afford to reinvest.
  3. Inspect expensive stock with the magnifying glass before agreeing to buy it. Check condition, seals and lettering instead of accepting the seller's valuation at face value. Suppliers can overstate an item's worth, and overpaying leaves less cash available for both rent and your eventual buyout.
  4. Review recurring energy, insurance and service costs before expanding production. Include those bills when deciding whether another machine will help your savings grow. An unpaid Power Service bill cuts power, so a machine's purchase price alone does not tell you what keeping it working will cost.
  5. Compare your remaining cash with the calendar's property value after allowing for rent and planned restocking. Treat that spare balance as your buyout reserve. Keep the comparison focused on money you can leave untouched, so a crowded inventory does not tempt you into spending credits already needed elsewhere.
03

Build Income You Can Repeat

  1. Load the production machines you already own before sleeping. Most machines need power and complete their work overnight, turning inputs into goods such as clean water or metal ingots. Establish a routine around equipment you can keep supplied before buying more machinery to chase a larger payout.
04

Choose Upgrades That Leave Money for Rent

The demo machine guide lists Power Line Hijack Service at 300 credits and says it makes nightly Power Service free. Commercial Grade Power Supply Unit Service is listed at 350 credits and makes the Recharger and PowerBloc charge 100% quicker. If you are saving for ownership, compare the benefit of removing a recurring bill with the value of faster charging before choosing an upgrade.

Be selective about expensive merchandise and contraband while building the reserve. Goods that are confiscated, fail inspection or remain unsold can leave you short when rent is due. Favor consistent net cash flow, and pass on a deal if paying the landlord would depend on an immediate resale or leave no room for a Security fine.

Use the appraisal guide's checks for packaging, indicators, serial numbers and printing when a valuable purchase would absorb a large share of your spare cash. Complete the inspection before discussing the price. That gives you a concrete way to assess the stock before putting your savings into it.

05

When Your Cash Exceeds the Property Value

A missing purchase option after you pass the calendar's property value is a limit of the current demo. Accumulating more than that valuation does not complete the buyout. The mentor describes a prospective mortgage or outright purchase, but that dialogue does not turn the demo's ownership goal into a working transaction.

The developers say demo saves are compatible with version 1.0, while strongly recommending a new game to avoid potential bugs. The announcement also says the demo will no longer be available after release. Decide whether to continue your existing run or start fresh when moving to the full game, and use your demo time to practice keeping income ahead of rent.
